How To Increase Your Online Christmas Sales

With so many people choosing to buy their Christmas presents online these days rather than braving the shops, online sales in the run-up to the event are becoming increasingly important. In fact, it is estimated that around 20 per cent of a company’s annual online turnover now comes from Christmas sales. If you are running an online business you can’t afford to not have a piece of this particular festive pie. With that in mind, here are some of the ways you can maximise your Christmas sales to make the most of this trend:

Make Your Website Festive: In order to get visitors to your site in the mood for buying Christmas presents, it’s worth thinking about a temporary re-vamp. You don’t have to go overboard with elves and Santas, but a festive feel to your website can make all the difference. Even just using more Christmassy colours such as reds, greens and golds can subtly influence a visitor’s inclination to buy more than they might have done.

Promote Star Products: If you have any particularly big sellers or exciting new products, the run-up to Christmas is the time to start pushing these as much as possible. To increase their visibility you should have these displayed on your home page as suggestions for Christmas presents. It’s also a good idea to extend your product range over the festive season to include Christmas themed items as these are sure to sell well. Consider offering a gift-wrapping option and make sure your returns policy and contact details are clearly displayed to give people confidence to buy.

Offer Deals: Christmas tends to be an expensive time, so if you offer your customers special deals they are sure to take notice. You could, for example, offer discounts on multi-buys or perhaps offer special ‘Christmas gift’ packages at a lower price overall than if you were to buy each item individually. Most companies today will offer some kind of pre-Christmas sales programme so you don’t want to be left behind. Just make sure you have plenty of these products in stock to cover demand, otherwise you will lose out on sales.

Drive Traffic: Driving traffic to your company’s website should be a year-round activity, but the Christmas season requires a particularly big push. Facebook and Twitter are perfect for advertising your seasonal offers as you can do it in a fun, informal way. You should also think about investing in Google Adwords or even offline advertising on billboards or in the local paper. The more people you can entice to your website, the bigger your overall Christmas turnover will be.
