What's The Best Way To Get More Authority Backlinks?

It’s no secret that Google takes kindly to sites with plenty of high-authority backlinks. Precisely why webmasters worldwide are now beating paths to the doors of sites of authority, begging and pleading with them to link back to their pages.

Inundated with requests like these, most are simply discarded...if not ignored entirely. Truth is, building backlinks of genuine quality and value is getting harder all the time.

But it is still something any business or website owner can do if approached the right way.

To help steer things in the right direction, here are seven tried, tested and trusted ways to more authority backlinks starting right now:

1. Create “Skyscraper” Content

First up, creating Skyscraper Content isn’t quite as easy as it sounds. This technique involves first finding something that is already out there, and is already ranking well for one of your main keywords.  At which point, you set about putting something together that’s even better.

Easier said than done, as ripping off the original post/page wholesale isn’t an option. What you need to do is analyse the piece from top to bottom, and brainstorm ideas for improving it.  Incorporate video clips, create infographics, expand on the detail, condense the facts – anything that takes it to a higher level.

At this point, you should have something more link-worthy than the original, which you can bend pitch to authority sources.

2. Promote Your Posts on Social Media

The key to getting more backlinks lies in first getting as many people as possible to check them out. More people reading your posts = a better chance some of them will link back to them.

One of the best options for getting more eyes on your posts is to promote them on social media. Each time you publish something you’re proud of, make a song and dance about it.

Use all social channels at your disposal to let your friends, fans and followers know there’s something they should be checking out. Include a snippet, hook them with a catchy title, and include a link that takes them directly to the post.

Remember that the easier you make it for them to find your latest work, the more likely they are to check it out.

3. Find and Poach Broken Links

Contrary to popular belief, there’s nothing sketchy or grey-hat about broken link building. In fact, it’s an activity where (almost) everyone involved wins.

As for how it works, it starts with compiling a list of your closest competitors, before entering their names into a decent backlink analyser. You’ll then be able to see which of their backlinks are broken (or lost), and you can set about the process of poaching these links accordingly.

You reach out to the source, you explain you’ve got a great piece they could link to, and they fix their bum link with your fantastic content.
