How to Get More Views for Your LinkedIn Profile

A LinkedIn profile that goes overlooked and ignored is a valueless asset. Not to mention, the ultimate irritation for professionals and businesses looking to get ahead.

Getting more views is about more than simply attracting the attention of the right people. The number of views your profile gets plays a major role in determining its visibility. LinkedIn’s search algorithm is engineered to show a preference for popular profiles, with plenty of views, shares and signs of engagement.

All well and good, but what can you do right now to start getting more eyes on your LinkedIn profile?

1 - Ensure Your Profile is Optimised

Optimising a LinkedIn profile means ensuring it is complete, accurate, unique and as easy to find as possible. Use the “Edit Public Profile and URL” link to rename your profile with strategically embedded keywords, which should also be present in the rest of your on-page content.  Ensure your profile picture sends the right message, keep your bio brief and create a catchy headline that’s more than just a job title.

2 - Grow Your Network

Adopting a passive approach to networking on LinkedIn is a recipe for substandard performance. If you want to build an extensive network and bring the right people to your pages, you need to make the effort yourself. Outreach can be approached in any number of ways - direct messages, commenting on posts, following other people in your niche and joining groups.  The more active and engaged you are, the easier it becomes to grow your network.

3 - Promote Your Profile and Content

Chances are, you have an active presence on several other social platforms. In this case, it simply makes sense to leverage the audiences you have elsewhere.  Each time you publish something on LinkedIn, promote it via your other social channels and link your followers to your LinkedIn pages. Tell them to check you out on follow you on LinkedIn - don’t simply assume they will do so instinctively.

4 - Post More Content More Often

Across all major social networks, the key to establishing a meaningful presence lies in publishing quality content. The posts you publish give you the opportunity to demonstrate your authority and differentiate yourself from others in your niche. Posting regularly is also essential, but quality should always be prioritised over quantity. Ensure each post you publish is of genuine relevance to your niche and value to your audience.

5 - Request Recommendations

Last up, the only thing more impactful than an endorsement is a recommendation. This is where those you’ve worked with (or for) go beyond simply verifying your capabilities to personally recommend you to others.  Contrary to popular belief, recommendations don’t usually flow in freely of their own accord. They need to be requested from those who are likely to provide them. Hence, if there’s anyone in your network you believe would be happy to recommend you, requesting they do so comes highly recommended.
