July 2019 Digital Marketing Stats

It’s again time to share a few important and interesting facts and figures regarding the fascinating world of online marketing. This time, we have some curious snippets regarding personalisation, livestreaming, the travel industry and more.
So, something for everyone…with some luck!
Here is how things are looking right now in some key areas of online marketing:

Live streaming is getting more popular
Firstly, research suggests that live streaming is experiencing a meteoric rise. Compared to last year, the number of users engaging with live streaming services has increased by nearly 8%. More than 25% of Internet users state that they have engaged in at least one live stream on their preferred social media platform.

72% of consumers use Amazon to research products
Despite the fact that it might not be used for as many purchases, research suggests that Amazon is now the number one resource for researching products. In fact, 72% of users state that they regularly use Amazon to do some research on products they intend to purchase. While 51% state they use Amazon to compare product prices, and around 26% use the details available to read reviews, compare similar products and so on.

Personalisation helps generate 50% higher email open rates
There is strong evidence to support the significance of personalisation when it comes to email marketing. Even something as simple as personalising the subject line can help increase click-to-open rates by 58%. Which seems to suggest that anybody not personalising their email marketing could be letting important amounts of money and time go to waste.

Live TV is declining
While this particular issue is far from a new phenomenon, it is becoming clear that live TV is experiencing a faster decline than ever before. Research reports that half of all millennials now watch streaming or recorded TV services rather than live television. For people over 35, around 35% show a preference for this time-shifted content.

Millennials respond much better to sales spiel on social media
A study by Bambu recently found that an increasing proportion of millennials usually respond better to sales outreach that is performed on social media platforms. A 35% stated it would be more likely that they purchase a product when industry news or information are shared on social media – the total number of people preferring this kind of sales tactics having jumped to 45%.

Only 9% of consumers use traditional travel agents
Lastly, it seems that the long-predicted and inevitable death of the high-street travel agent has made a significant step towards becoming a fact. According to new research, just 9% of consumers actively booking holidays now would visit a traditional travel agent in any way. As far as the younger population is concerned, the figure falls to 4%. Nonetheless, the same study revealed that of high-street travel agents were to embrace modern advances in technology like virtual reality, nearly half of consumers would be more likely to revisit them again.
