What Are The Most Popular Social Media Apps In 2022
Incredible to imagine, but almost 60% of the world’s entire population uses social media. Among those who do, the average social media account holder spends 2 ½ hours per day browsing their preferred platforms.
Hence, to call social media an outright phenomenon in a marketing and business sense would be something of an understatement. But which are the most popular social media platforms in the world today?
Has there been any major movement since the start of the year, or are the front-runners still leading the charge by a clear mile?
Here’s how things look in 2022, based purely on popularity:
1. Facebook
With a total combined audience of 2.93 billion monthly active users worldwide, Facebook still rules the roost by a considerable margin. However, Facebook has seen a significantly slower growth rate over recent years than many other social networks. Presumably, because everyone who wants to be on Facebook already is!
2. YouTube
YouTube of is not only the second most popular social media app in the world, but also one of the most-visited websites on the planet by far. YouTube’s total combined audience has swelled significantly as of late to around 2.6 billion people.
3. Instagram
Third in line comes Instagram, which with a global audience of 2 billion active monthly users is hot on the heels of Facebook. Much of Instagram’s explosive popularity is attributed to the continuous diversification of the platform. From Reels to Stories to Stickers and more, they’re doing a great job keeping the world hooked.
4. Twitter
Occupying fourth place in the rankings, Twitter continues to perform strongly with an estimated 229 million monetizable daily active users. The at-a-glance nature of Twitter’s social media model has always resonated with modern audiences, who for the most part have ridiculously short attention spans.
5. TikTok
There are many who believe that TikTok may eventually steal the crown from Facebook in a big way. The company recently revealed its passing of the 1 billion user mark, but estimates now suggest TikTok will have more than 2 billion users by the end of the year.
6. Pinterest
Arguably a surprising entry in sixth place, the popularity of Pinterest is often underestimated. Pinterest is considered the best social network for marketing and selling products to a vast audience of potential buyers, Pinterest boasts a huge 433 million monthly active users worldwide.
7. LinkedIn
A slightly different take on the classic social network, LinkedIn’s appeal to businesses and professionals is huge. It’s all square fantastic B2B marketing platform, with a total combined audience of around 850 million users.
8. Snapchat
The unusual vanishing picture format of Snapchat once limited its appeal to a fairly niche audience. Having significantly broadened and diversified its offerings over the years, Snapchat now pulls in a whopping 332 million daily active users.
9. Reddit
Reddit’s numbers are a little more difficult to quantify, as countless millions browse Reddit daily without actually having an account. Even so, chalking up 1.5 billion monthly visitors on average to the site is a pretty impressive achievement.
10. Clubhouse
Last up, the popularity of clubhouse is steadily growing. The platform was launched at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, and has since built an audience of approximately 10 million weekly active users. Most experts predict nothing but the things to come for this fast-growing platform.
