When To Hire A Social Media Expert

Many smaller companies will be able to manage their social media marketing in-house. However, there are many reasons why this may become impractical after a time: perhaps the business has grown and there is less time to spend on marketing, or perhaps your level of expertise in this area simply isn’t enough anymore to take your business to the next step. In such cases, an obvious solution is to bring in an expert social media strategist. Here are some of the signs your company may be ready for this:

Lack of Knowledge: A basic understanding of how social media functions is OK at the beginning, but it can only take you so far. As your business grows and you’re looking to branch out, there will probably come a time when you realise you are finding it too difficult to keep up with the latest trends. After all, online marketing is constantly evolving so unless you dedicate a significant amount of time to it you can’t hope to maintain the necessary know-how. After all, there’s more to it than posting the odd tweet and picture: You need to have a strong understanding of analytics, the latest software and tools, competitor analysis and much more besides.

Neglecting Key Areas: If you’re a small business owner selling products or services, chances are your own particular area of expertise doesn’t lie in social media marketing. If, therefore, you find that updating your social media accounts is beginning to detract from the time you spend on running the business itself, this is when it may be time to consider hiring outside help. There’s no point dividing yourself between the two tasks – online marketing and revenue building – and hence not doing a thorough job of either. Far better to let each task be done by the person who knows how to carry it out to the highest possible standard.

It’s Becoming a Chore: We’ve all been there – you start off enthusiastic about something and then other tasks take over and suddenly what was interesting to you now feels like a burden. If you’re starting to feel this way about your social media marketing then it’s definitely time to get someone else to do it.  After all, if you’re not giving your all to marketing your company then you will find it hard to generate interest from potential customers. You want somebody who had made it their career to create compelling online content and has a genuine interest in the latest social media marketing trends. Otherwise, unfortunately, you may as well not be doing it at all.
